Caleb’s finally home

January 28, 2011, by Kyle

45 days, 3 hours, and some odd minutes after his birth, Caleb is finally home. Everything I have tried to write to describe our emotions and feelings about the magnitude of this moment has failed to convey the message…write something, delete. Write something else, delete. And repeat.

Pause. Breathe. And then it really hits me that he is here. Tearful joy for his presence here, gratitude to all those who cared for him over the course of the last 45 days, appreciation for the experience and the subsequent impact on my perspective, and love for this child who has so graciously entered the world and changed me for the better.

Right, so we are home with Caleb and what do any first time parents ask themselves…so now what? Well, after a little feeding, diaper change, pick out some new threads to wear, two hour nap on my chest, another feeding, followed by another diaper change…oh that’s right, we have a swing that should entertain him….So here he is, swinging for the first time, and what I presume will not be the last.

I can honestly say that there is only one reason Caleb has done so well…He has been blessed by God with the most wonderful, loving and devoted parents! He truly is one lucky little man. May God continue to bless the Hodges family.

Your post brought tears to my eyes. I am so happy Caleb is finally home and you guys are able to really bond as a family. Just remember from this day forward your life will never be the same. As I have only been a mommy for a mere three years, I often stop and wonder how did I ever live life without my wonderful child. The swing will likely become one of your best friends and I am expecting a post sometime in the near future about that new mini van you are searching for! LOL Tons of love and kisses from all of us especially Matlyn. Can’t wait to see you guys and meet Mr. Caleb.

As a parent of 2 grown children, I can only imagine how you are feeling. And we never faced the early challenges that are in your way…
Enjoy every minute with the 3 of you–unforgettable times…one day he will be 35–like our oldest—ugh..where did the years go?

Tell Caleb–winter is ugh…he spent his first one tucked safely away in the warm depths of the hospital and his parents arms…..great survival techniques.
Enjoy your time together–every minute……, cathy

Congratulations! Caleb looks so content at home surrounded by those who love him. Each day will be a miracle as he “awakens” to life around him. Enjoy!

Love the swinging video–thanks so much for sharing. Remembering our own kids in the swing (one loved it; one hated it!) I am guessing Caleb as a swing lover–a very good thing.
Have prayed lots for Caleb’s good health and happiness–seems he is on his way. The Holy Spirit–SHE is amazing….
Enjoy every minute–it goes so fast…………………
